It’s snow joke-Louise is the tops with her snowman design!

Beeston Fields Primary & Nursery School children entered a competition to design a Christmas card for the Silverwood Care Home on Imperial Road, Beeston, and were delighted when their fellow pupil won the competition!

Louise Zhu, age 6, was delighted to hear she was the top pick! “I am really happy that I won. My friends were amazed!”

Following the news, children joined Louise on a visit to a winter wonderland and Santa’s Grotto at Silverwood Care Home. Open for local children to visit, the winter wonderland and grotto are to support fundraising for a therapy room for care home residents.

Silverwood Care Home Manager is Debra Meynell who said, ‘It’s been wonderful being able to have the children back here at Silverwood after having to abide by Covid guidelines. The entries for the Christmas card competition have been out of this world and it was extremely hard for our residents to choose a winner. We would love to say a massive thank you to Beeston Fields Primary & Nursery School for taking part and making our residents Christmas a special one!’

Ilona O’Donnell is Art Lead and Year 1 teacher at Beeston Fields Primary & Nursery School and went with children to visit the care home. She said, “We were so proud of all of the amazing entries submitted for the card competition. Visiting Santa at Silverwood was magical, and it was such a delight to see the joy on the children’s faces.

“A room full of children singing Christmas songs with the residents of Silverwood was a heart-warming moment I will remember for a long time. This has been such a wonderful opportunity for our children to engage with members of our community and we are looking forward to more visits with the residents in the near future.”
