Children at Lovers’ Lane Primary & Nursery School in Newark celebrated the Harvest Festival with a special assembly and a generous food collection for a local food bank.

During their assembly, children performed seasonal poems and sang traditional Harvest songs as well as discussing the school’s values of kindness and community. Children also enjoyed a special harvest festival lunch courtesy of their school kitchen.

Head Teacher James Wood expressed his gratitude to the school community, saying, “Our families have shown incredible generosity in supporting the children’s Harvest Festival through their donations.

“Part of our new school vision of ‘Empowering Everyday Excellence’ is to be a school ‘unique to the community that we serve’. Therefore, we wanted to give back to our community. Our Harvest celebration was a wonderful opportunity to do this and to reflect some of the values we hold to as a school of community and kindness.

“Seeing our pupils lead with confidence and compassion, while supporting the Trussell Trust, shows the kind of excellence we strive to empower every day.”

The collected groceries have been donated to Newark’s Foodbank, which is supported by the Trussell Trust and operates from the Newark Community Support Centre on Carter Gate.
