The Literacy Excellence Centre (LEC) is a professional community dedicated to the development, support, research and resources that drive practice improvement for the teaching and leadership of Literacy
Building on the work of the English Hub, the LEC is a space for teachers and leaders across all phases to have professional conversations that lead to greater connection across schools.
It is a place where they can engage in high quality professional development and access school improvement support as well as accessing the latest research and resources to ensure the very best learning outcomes.
We recognise the diverse needs of schools and practitioners, that’s why our offer is designed to be flexible, accessible and impactful, whatever your context.
Our Why
The LEC aims to become the ‘one stop shop’ for all things Literacy, underpinned by 4 pillars: Problem solving, passion for teaching, research and expertise.
We want all children and students to thrive within their English, reading, writing and oracy learning opportunities and we know that is best achieved through the support and development of teachers.
Our Professional Offer
Our offer showcases a comprehensive range of professional learning opportunities for schools and practitioners. We work with schools from across the East Midlands region and beyond. With a range of sessions available to join remotely, membership offers access to high-quality professional learning enabling connection, collaboration and strengthened practice, regardless of where you are based.
To support collaboration and shared learning across the sector, our CPL content is organised into these five core themes:
Membership
Become a member of the Literacy Excellence Centre community as a school and access a rich and varied annual programme, resources and opportunities including half termly think pieces, free or discounted CPL and podcasts.
Alternatively, you can engage On Demand in a range of opportunities such as Literacy Leaders Network, full or half day workshops and some spotlight webinars. Click for more information.
The LEC Team
Carl Pattison
LEC Lead
Carl has over 20 years experience in education including Headteacher and Strategic Lead for Flying High English Hub. He is also a member of the National English Hub Council. He has led the DfE Priority Literacy project and works as independent Literacy advisor for primary and secondary schools.
