Launde Primary School in Oadby is celebrating their latest Ofsted result, which demonstrates the school has undergone transformational change, meeting all of the high standards set out under the new Ofsted framework. This latest good news arrives after the school was also told it would receive £2.7 million to transform the school’s buildings!
In the Ofsted report, the school met the Expected Standard in all areas inspected, including all safeguarding measures. Under the new Ofsted framework, the Government says an ‘Expected Standard’ judgement means that ‘the school or other provider is doing everything that it should
be doing’ and that it is ‘a high standard, to make sure your children are receiving everything they need and deserve.’*
Shelley Meer is Headteacher at Launde Primary School and she said, “We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection and incredibly proud of what it represents for our pupils, staff, governors, families and the wider community.
“One of the comments in the report that means the most to us is that ‘Pupils at Launde Primary School are justifiably proud of their vibrant school.’ Those words perfectly capture the culture we have worked so hard to build. Launde is a place where children feel valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best, and it is wonderful to see this recognised.
“While we are taking time to celebrate our Ofsted achievement, we also know that our journey does not stop here. We remain ambitious for every child and committed to continuous improvement. I am immensely proud to be part of such a dedicated and supportive community and am excited about what the future holds for Launde Primary School as part of the Flying High Partnership. The best is yet to come!”
Specific areas highlighted in the Ofsted report include achievement, which demonstrates that children at the school achieve strong outcomes and are well prepared for the next stage of their education. The report says, ‘…pupils’ attainment in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of key stage 2 is above the national averages, including typically for disadvantaged pupils. Many pupils reach the higher standards in these subjects, again above national averages.’
Inspectors said attendance at the school is currently above average and pupils’ behaviour is also praised by inspectors who said that ‘Pupils conduct themselves very well across the school’ and that they are ‘…well mannered with kind hearts.’
The report says that curriculum and teaching is strong and its Early Years provides a successful start to children’s education, reporting that its curriculum is both ‘ambitious and progressive’. Leaders at the school were found to have established an inclusive culture which ‘is ambitious for all pupils.’
Leadership and governance are credited with a rapid journey of improvement since the last inspection. The school has recently joined and is supported by the Flying High Partnership (FHP) multi-academy trust, which is consistently ranked in the top five in the country for performance.
The report says of the school, “Their work gained impetus through the extensive support provided by the new trust. The trust has strengthened the way that those responsible for governance support and challenge the school. This ensures that they carry out their statutory
duties effectively. Leaders and the trust act consistently with pupils’ best interests at the centre of all decisions.’
Inspectors said that ‘Leaders greatly value the fact that parents and carers are incredibly ambitious and support their children’s education and achievement.’
Personal development and wellbeing is noted as a strength, finding that children know how to access help when needed, keep themselves safe, including online safety, and that the school provides effective pastoral intervention when needed. The school, said inspectors, actively celebrates the diversity of its community saying children show ‘…tolerance and respect consistently in their behaviour and interactions.’
Inspectors said, “Pupils at Launde Primary School are justifiably proud of their vibrant school. They attend school increasingly well because they are eager to learn. Pupils work hard and are curious. They soak up new knowledge. Starting in the early years, children develop a secure foundation for their future learning. They progress well with the broad and engaging curriculum as they continue through the school, resulting in highly positive achievement. The oldest pupils, in particular, achieve well in national tests, preparing them very well for the move to secondary school.”

Shelley says the whole school is excited for its future and is also looking forward to seeing the results of building investments, which will transform the school’s facilities for generations to come. She said, “These are exciting times for our school. We are delighted at the significant investment we have secured through two successful Condition Improvement Fund bids. The funding for a new dining hall and a new roof will have a lasting impact on our school environment and will further enhance the experience of our pupils and the wider community.”
Speaking of the planned works, Dave Morris, (FHP Estates Manager) said, “Following a successful and highly competitive bidding process, we have secured in excess of £2.2 million to fund the demolition of the existing facilities and the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art kitchen and dining block. This funding has been approved subject to planning consent, which is currently progressing through the necessary stages. Assuming approval is granted, work will commence as soon as possible to deliver a modern facility that will serve our children and community for many years to come.
“In addition, we are delighted to confirm that a second funding bid has also been successful. This award, worth approximately £526,000, will enable the reroofing of the school’s original building block. These essential works will help prevent water ingress and ensure that our school remains safe, warm and dry for decades to come.
“This significant achievement is the result of a strong partnership between Launde Primary School, the Flying High Partnership and YMD Boon, whose expertise supported the bid
preparation process, and will manage the projects to completion. This demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations work together with a shared ambition for our children.”
