Greythorn Primary School pupils are celebrating their win in the Premier League Primary Stars U11s Girls Cup, a tournament which saw them play competitively against 8 school teams from across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire.
The final match, between Greythorn Primary School and Chetwynd Spencer Academy was played out in challenging weather conditions and showed resilience and skill on both sides, with Greythorn taking the title with a 5-0 score.
Sarah Cox, Deputy Headteacher at Greythorn Primary School, said the majority of the team scored at least one goal on the day, and that players took it in turns to play in goal. Remarkably, the school also achieved a clean sheet in every game they played.
Sarah said, “We are delighted that our girls’ team has won the district round of this competition for the second-year running. They won the final with an impressive 5-0 score line, which demonstrates their skills and teamwork, on and off the pitch. We are very proud of the girls’ success. Thanks also go to Tom Bingley and Chris Marks, our sports coaches who train the team.”
The team will now progress to the regional round in Chesterfield on March 6th to represent Notts County and Notts County Foundation.
