Hawthorne Primary & Nursery School pupil meets Prime Minister with winning VE Day bunting design!

Noah’s bunting design to mark 80^th VE Day anniversary leads to tea at 10 Downing Street

A pupil from Hawthorne Primary & Nursery School in Bestwood Village, Nottingham, was invited to tea with the Prime Minister when his bunting design for the 80^th Anniversary Celebrations of Victory in Europe (VE) Day was chosen to feature at 10 Downing Street.

Noah Easom is in year 2 at Hawthorne Primary & Nursery School and was one of only three winners whose designs are now decorating 10 Downing Street. Following his win, Noah was invited to tea with Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, alongside his fellow competition winners.

Noah explained his design ideas saying, “The bunting was designed for a party when the war had ended. I used red, white and blue to represent Great Britain and I included poppies as symbol of hope and hearts to show love and joy.”

Noah said winning and making the journey to see the Prime Minister was an exciting adventure. Concerning his visit to London, Noah said, “Meeting the Prime Minister was the best part of my day. He was really kind, and he said he liked my bunting design. I got to sit next to him at the party, and I had a picture outside number 10 Downing Street too!”

Rachel Jarvis is Noah’s Head teacher at Hawthorne Primary & Nursery School, and she said the whole school community is proud of his efforts. “We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud that one of our pupils has been named as one of just three winners across the UK in the VE Day bunting competition. As part of this amazing achievement, he was even invited to have tea with the Prime Minister, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that he will never forget.

“Noah’s creativity and effort truly stood out, and it’s a wonderful recognition not only for him but for our whole school community. It’s an honour to be part of this celebration of history and remembrance through such a meaningful and creative project.”
