Year 5 and 6 children at Horsendale Primary School in Nuthall have wowed audiences with their production of The Amazing Adventures of Superstan.
The performance, which showcased children’s acting, singing and dancing talents, was a huge success, but took real dedication from those taking part, explained Year 6 teacher, Kate Bates. “We originally auditioned our Year 6 actors shortly after they had completed their SATs, and our rehearsals began in the last half-term. Children worked so well together, learning the songs and choreographing the dance moves to their performance.
“Rehearsals began in class and then moved on to the stage where we were able to use the talents of our tech, lighting, and prop teams to help the actors in their performance. Despite
being a complex show, it all started to come together very quickly. In the last three weeks, our Year 6 performers were joined by the Year 5 choir and that’s when we saw the show really coming together.”
Fellow year 6 teacher, Helen Flint, said that even during rehearsals, children’s talents shone through. “Our Year 6 have been delivering lines with pizzazz and putting all the elements together to create a fantastic show. Even the dress rehearsal blew us away; we are so proud of how hard the children have worked to perform their roles. What an amazing adventure and the perfect way to end the year!”
Pupil, Henry, is in Year 6 and said, “At the start it’s nerve-wracking because of all the lines – but I learnt them, said them correctly and acted them too! It was fun!”
Year 6 pupil, Kianna, also mastered performance nerves saying, “It’s very exciting and entertaining. I feel calm on stage. I get butterflies before, but when I get on, I feel calm.”
Alex in Year 6 said, “Playing a funny character made it easier to perform in front of audience. It’s the first time that I’ve not felt nervous on stage. I would definitely recommend it to a friend!”
