Primary school children from across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire come together to create a spectacular children’s awards show at Royal Concert Hall Nottingham.
Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall has hosted a glittering awards ceremony for hundreds of children whose schools are located across Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
In all, 38 Flying High Partnership schools and over 600 children participated in the event, celebrating children for their achievements and positive contributions to school life, including their sporting successes.
Children took centre stage as presenters, confidently leading the awards ceremony and inviting children on stage to perform songs, showcase their school’s artworks, and to collect their awards in front of a packed audience of supporters, friends and families.
CEO and founder of The Flying High Partnership, Chris Wheatley OBE, said the event created lasting memories for children. Chris said, “This event celebrates children from across our partnership, in a setting which is a fitting backdrop to our children’s inspiring achievements.
“Each awardee embodies one or more of the Children’s Characteristics which sit at the heart of our partnership’s core values: creating unique, exceptional and sustainable schools. Our children co-created the Children’s Characteristics, with definitions shaped by the Flying High Children’s Parliament, and they represent not only our children’s voice, but their legacy, and these offer inspiration to us all. A huge well done to all of our children!”

Awards inspired by Children’s Characteristics include Aspiration, Kindness, Effective Communication, Confidence, Pride, Curiosity, Responsibility, Resilience, and Problem Solving.
Year 6 pupil Caleb attends Poolsbrook Primary Academy in Chesterfield and said, “I really enjoyed our night at the Children’s Awards. I liked the way that everyone got on stage to sing together in front of so many people. Thank you to all the staff who made the night so special.”
Year 2 pupil Aizah from Alderman Pounder Infant & Nursery School in Beeston was a member of the choir and said, “I was a bit nervous about going on stage, but when I did, I felt better. There were a lot of children in the choir, more than in our whole school. I enjoyed it a lot!”
Attending the event was recently appointed Headteacher of Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy, Mr. Chris Reynolds. Chris said that whilst his school had attended previous events, the
experience was new for him. “As a new Headteacher within the Flying High Partnership, I was incredibly impressed by the Children’s Awards. It was a wonderful celebration of the achievements, talents, and contributions of children from across the trust.
“The children and their families clearly had a fantastic time, and the event created a real sense of pride and belonging. Seeing so many schools come together highlighted not only the scale of the Flying High Partnership but also the tremendous success it has achieved in supporting children and communities. It was an inspiring evening that truly reflected the values and ambitions the Flying High Partnership holds for all children and all schools in the trust.”
Pupil Abbey is in Year 5 at Haddon Primary & Nursery School in Carlton, Nottingham, and said, “I had a great time, it was fun! I was a bit nervous, but I enjoyed it. I loved seeing new people and seeing the headteachers’ dance. I loved getting my medals and going on the stage!”
