Children’s designs prompt egg-citing win two years in a row!

Killisick Junior School children are celebrating back-to-back victories in Gedling Borough Council’s Easter Egg Hunt, an event showcasing their creativity, community spirit, and the school’s commitment to enrichment and development of the whole child.

Pupils worked closely with the school’s Site Manager, Mr Steve Lucas, during their OWL (Other Ways of Learning) time, -a dedicated weekly enrichment session, to design, paint and construct vibrant 3D Easter eggs. These egg-ceptional masterpieces were displayed across the local area for the public to enjoy and their eye-catching designs and creative flair impressed judges and community members alike.

Site Manager, Mr Lucas commented, “It’s great that we have opportunities for children to share their talents, interests and skills with the wider community of Arnold and beyond.”

Year 5 pupil, Liffie, said, “I joined the Enrichment because it gives me yet another outlet for my creativity. I also love our reading, music and sports festivals.”

They are joined by a suited mayor wearing a ceremonial chain, a teacher in a white shirt and yellow tie, and another adult in a dark hoodie. They are standing in a school entrance area, with a digital screen behind displaying the Killisick Junior School logo and the slogan "We Are Killisick."

Executive Headteacher Richard Jones shared his pride saying “I’m so proud every single day of the achievements our children make – both inside the classroom and beyond. The fact that this is being recognised at a local level is brilliant for our children.”

Richard says the repeat win now feels like a school tradition.  “We are a member of the Flying High Partnership, which prides itself on educational excellence and unrivalled personal development for children. We are thrilled that this win echoes the words of inspectors following our recent inspection which highlighted our provision for personal development of pupils.”

In its most recent OFSTED report, inspectors praised the school for its well-rounded offer, noting, “The school has meticulously planned for pupils’ wider development. Pupils are exceptionally well prepared for their next steps.”

As part of their reward, the winning pupils met the Worshipful Mayor of Gedling, Kyle Robinson Payne, who presented them with a trophy and a book voucher to help stock up their school library. The celebration continued with a lively question and answer session between the children and the Mayor, with pupils posing thoughtful and challenging questions about local leadership and community initiatives.

With two consecutive wins under their belt, Killisick Junior School now hopes to make the Easter Egg Hunt an annual highlight in its school calendar, -a celebration of imagination, teamwork, and community pride!
