Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy in Sutton in Ashfield have announced they will provide Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) clubs during school holidays in collaboration with Next Level Sports Ltd and the I’m So Good food company.

The Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) initiative is funded by government through local authorities to provide education, healthy eating, and activity-based provision for 20 days per year during Easter, summer and October holidays. Whilst the programme is designed to support busy working families and those on low incomes, families can apply to the school for a place for their child, – even if they do not attend the school during term time.

Ahead of their first holiday club, Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy children met with Scott Hardy, Director of Next Level Sports Ltd, to learn about the activities on offer, which will include disco dodgeball, scooters, soft archery, arts and crafts, quiet reading, dance, basketball, food education and nutrition, as well as time socialising with friends.

Children also spent time with Luke Skidmore and Emily Willis, co‑founders of the I’m So Good food company, who will be providing the healthy, balanced meals for the clubs. They brought along a selection of delicious, nutritious foods for pupils to sample, giving children a taste of what’s to come.

Mia is in year 3 at the academy and took part in the food tasting. Mia said, “I really liked the pasta with chicken, and I rate it 100 out of 10! I like eating healthy foods and I like broccoli. Normally I would say I don’t like spicy food, but I just tried some, -and now I like it.  I would really like to go to the holiday clubs and to have a go at Disco dodgeball!”

Pupil, Poppy is in year 5 and said, “I would like to take part in the holiday clubs, it would be fun and it would be nice if my friend Esme came too.”

Luke Skidmore, co‑founder of I’m So Good, said his company will be partnering with the Flying High Partnership and Next Level Sports Ltd on this new initiative for Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy.

Luke explained that I’m So Good already delivers nutritionally balanced meals across a range of settings, including hospitals, cafés, and fitness centres, and that they welcome the new opportunity to support the development and wellbeing of the young people attending the HAF clubs.

Luke said, “We work very hard to ensure our foods are of the highest quality, are nutritionally balanced, -and of course, that they taste great too.

“Many of the children who joined the taster session tried foods they had never experienced before, and their parents can be reassured that every ingredient used in our meals has been thoroughly reviewed for its nutritional quality. Any elements of a recipe that are less healthy have been substituted with more nutritious alternatives to ensure the meals remain both appealing and wholesome.”

Emily Willis co-founded I’m So Good with Luke and said the combination of activities and food education at the clubs will support children’s wellbeing. Emily said, “To enrich children’s experience beyond the plate, we explore food, flavours and fitness to help young people flourish through a greater understanding of nutrition and the wider role food plays in health and everyday life. We hope to provide children with all the knowledge they need to make the best choices for a happy and healthy future.”

Scott Hardy, Director of Next Level Sports Ltd will coordinate daily activities for children at the holiday club.  Scott said, “Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy are the eighth school from The Flying High Partnership to work with Next Level Sports Ltd on this initiative. The clubs offer a fantastic way for children to spend their school holidays in a meaningful and healthy way, developing their fitness, confidence and healthy eating knowledge.

“We’re excited to be working with Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy and their children, and to introduce them to the brilliant activities we’ve planned, along with the fantastic food created by the team at I’m So Good.”

Nick Layfield is Head of Operations at the Flying High Partnership, the multi-academy trust of which Leamington Primary & Nursery School is a member. Nick said, “We are proud to work in partnership with Next Level Sports and I’m So Good to deliver the HAF programme at Leamington Primary & Nursery Academy.  The HAF Clubs are a great opportunity for our schools and their children; we currently offer 8 HAF programmes running across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire at Flying High Partnership schools.

“HAF clubs provide a great opportunity for children to spend time with their friends and to forge new friendships in a safe and fun environment.   This is a valuable opportunity for busy working families, and also those facing challenging financial times, to access high quality childcare that is engaging and centred on our children.”
