Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy is celebrating further sporting success as it achieves a Silver School Games Mark!

This latest news follows children’s earlier recognition for their Mini-London Marathon challenge, where they clocked up 330 miles together, and a Pretty Muddy Race for Life 5KM fundraiser where they raised over £4800 for Cancer Research UK.

The school’s latest accolade is a Silver School Games Mark, part of a government-led award scheme, achieved in recognition of the school’s commitment to the development of PE, school sport and provision of physical activities for children.

Josh Poxon is Sports Coach at the school and said, “We are delighted to achieve this Silver award which recognises the work we do across all sports and physical activities within Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy.

“This quality mark is acknowledgement of our efforts to increase children’s participation by providing opportunities to take part in both competitive and inclusive sporting events, develop leadership opportunities for young people, and our promotion of healthy and active lifestyles throughout the school community.

“The award also reflects our commitment to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to engage in sport, represent their school, and to enjoy the wider benefits that physical activity brings, including teamwork, confidence, resilience and wellbeing.”

Oakley is a year 6 pupil at the school and said, “I enjoy rounders, tennis and football because they are all fun, nice games. Two of which build teamwork and trust. I am proud of our school winning the silver award because our teachers teach us all different sports and teach us teamwork, trust and much more!”

Chris Reynolds, Headteacher at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy, said: “This has been a fantastic year for sport at Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy and reflects the dedication and hard work of our sports coach and staff team in providing enriching opportunities for children to participate, develop new skills and enjoy being active. We are absolutely delighted to receive this latest award, which is another proud addition to our growing collection of achievements. Most importantly, it celebrates the enthusiasm, commitment and success of our pupils, who continue to embrace every opportunity available to them.”
